Updating an Existing Post

Make changes to a linked WordPress post directly from Google Docs and publish updates without starting from scratch.

Note: Updating only works if the Google Doc is already connected to a WordPress post. If the document was never published or linked before, first publish it as a new post.

Steps to Update a Post

  1. Open the Google Doc that is already linked to your WordPress post.

  2. Make your edits directly in Google Docs.

  3. In the Docs to WP Pro extension, go to the Publish tab.

  4. Click Push to WP to update the post on your WordPress site.

  5. Confirm the update is live by clicking Link Published Post.

Notes

  • Any changes made directly in WordPress after the last push will be overwritten when you update from Google Docs.

  • Review all edits in the Google Doc before publishing to avoid unintended updates.

  • Default settings (categories, tags, featured images) will also be applied unless changed before publishing.

Why Update Instead of Creating New?

Updating is faster than creating a new post and is ideal for:

  • Quick edits or corrections.

  • Refreshing older content.

  • Maintaining a single post URL while improving its content.
